For the second year, I had the pleasure of conducting my workshop “Maximizing Moisture” at the 2017 New Orleans Natural Hair Expo and once again it was an amazing experience. I started my presentation by stating that I read a ton of post in Facebook groups and the primary question seems to be “how do I keep my natural hair moisturized?” By now you would think that as long as women have been making the decision to revert to their natural hair texture, we should have this thing about moisture figured out, right? No, not true!
Before I dove into the topic of moisturizing hair, I asked the audience “why are we obsessed with moisture?” Are we obsessed with moisture because we want our hair to feel and look as it did with chemical relaxers? Or do we feel a lack of self-confidence when our hair looks dry?
When it comes to keeping natural hair moisturized we have to accept the fact that by default textured hair is naturally dry. But there are several things we can do to add moisture that will keep the hair healthy and vigorous.
I spoke about the Jamaican Mango and Lime Pure Naturals Butter Creme, one of my favorite products that help to keep my natural hair moisturized. It’s lightweight, creamy and packed with ingredients such as coconut oil and hibiscus that moisturize and detangle natural hair.
The Jamaican Mango and Lime Pure Natural Shea Oil Styling Serum is perfect for adding shine to naturally dry hair. This lightweight oil is sulfate, mineral oil, and paraben-free made with essential ingredients that penetrate deep into the hair strands providing moisture and shine.
Keeping your natural hair clean and free of product build-up will help to increase moisture. Washing your hair with a moisturizing shampoo such as the Curls Dynasty Coco Mint Moisture Rich Shampoo is guaranteed to give your hair maximum moisture. I had the opportunity to test this product about a month ago, and I was extremely impressed with how clean and moisturized my hair felt.
The Coco Mint Moisture Rich Shampoo, formulated with ingredients such as organic aloe juice, organic hemp seed oil, and organic dark chocolate extract contribute to moisturizing natural hair.
Many of us dread the thought of wash day! But washing your natural hair doesn’t have to be a nightmare especially if you have the right tools. The iconic D3 Medium 7 Row Denman Brush is the perfect hair tool to use on wash day or to help evenly coat the hair with your favorite conditioner or styling product. This brush is suitable for all lengths and designed with an ergonomic handle for balance and comfort.
