I big chopped in May of 2012. I was excited about returning to my natural roots. Like many of you, I begin searching YouTube for videos about how to care for and style my natural hair. I learned how to create different hairstyles such as the two strand twist, flat twist, braid out, and the wash-n-go. After months of practicing, I mastered the flat twist technique and started teaching others the TNC Flat Twist Method. But I never quite got the hang of doing a wash-n-go. I tried the wash-n-go several times, and it was a complete fail.
Just because I couldn’t do a wash-n-go, that didn’t stop me from watching a ton of wash-n-go videos admiring the fact that other women had that kind of hair that allowed them to do a wash-n-go. Yeah, I said it “that kind of hair”! After two years into my natural hair journey, I stopped watching wash-n-go videos so much. I had to accept the fact that I didn’t have type 2 or 3 hair with loose curls, and I learned to fall in love with my kinky coily hair, in other words, type 4C hair. I convinced myself that the only way to define my curls would be with the flat twist technique.
Over the years my friend Julian Addo founder of Bella Kinks Naturals told me several times that I could do a wash-n-go and that there’s no such thing as that kind of hair! Anyone with textured hair can achieve a wash-n-go. To be honest every time she told me that I had serious doubts.
Well, fast forward to 2017 five years later and guess what? I have learned how to do a wash-n-go. Yep! You heard me! I can do a wash-n-go, thanks to Julian I have fallen in love with my natural hair all over again. In October of 2017, she launched a new hair product line “Adwoa Beauty the Baomint” collection and taught me how to do the wash-n-go technique. The Boamint collection is formulated to focus on having a healthy scalp while providing intense moisture to elongate kinky coily hair like mine.
Ladies, listen to me! If you have type 4C hair, don’t think for another minute that you can not do a wash-n-go because if I can do it so can you. Check out my pictures and videos below to see how I was able to define my natural curls with the Adwoa Beauty Baomint collection.
These 2 picture show what my hair looked like after applying the Adwoa Beauty Baomint Moisturizing Curl Defining Gel in small sections using the shingling method and a Denman Brush.
These are the results of my hair 100% dry after sitting under a hooded hair dryer for 25 minutes and then air drying for the remainder of the day.
